The Myth of the Fresh Start
I've counseled dozens of pastors and leaders who believed that a new church, a new city, or a new role would finally be the thing that fixed what was broken. And in almost every case, the same patterns showed up within 18 months.
This isn't a failure of faith. It's a failure to understand a simple, sobering truth: wherever you go, there you are.
You bring yourself into every room you enter. Your unprocessed wounds travel with you. Your relational patterns pack their bags and move with you. Your leadership defaults don't stay behind when you relocate.
What Buried Trauma Does
The vision for C3 Healthy Leadership was birthed from watching leaders who were genuinely gifted, genuinely called, and genuinely committed — yet consistently producing unhealthy cultures.
When I looked beneath the surface, I found the same thing time and again: buried trauma manifesting as leadership dysfunction.
Hurting people hurt people. And leaders are not exempt from this reality.
The Pathway Forward
The good news is that God has given us a pathway. It's not a personality transplant. It's not years of therapy alone. It's the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, working through honest self-reflection, trusted community, and the healing power of the Gospel.
The Assess → Align → Act → Multiply process is built on the conviction that:
- You can't fix what you won't face.
- Alignment comes from the inside out.
- Healthy action flows from a healthy soul.
- What is healed in you can be multiplied through you.
A Question Worth Sitting With
Before your next transition, your next hire, your next strategic plan — ask yourself this question:
What am I carrying that I haven't yet allowed God to heal?
The answer to that question might be the most important leadership work you do this year.
